Show up for your Damn-self!
I was raised by a beautiful tribe of women. Hard working women, no nonsense, get it done by any means necessary women. I love who they’ve raised me to become, especially my mother. They taught me to show up for myself because no one else will, and no one else has to!
Imagine if Harriet Tubman waited on a guy, waited on her girlfriend, or waited on some shit period before she decided to make that journey north. Harriet would’ve definitely died a slave. Showing up for yourself first begins with your mindset. If you have the mindset that you can’t make a move independently then you will forever be an dependent ass person. Harriet’s mindset was come hell or high water she was about to make it to freedom. Then when she went back to get other people she held them accountable. If you were rolling out with her then you were gonna have to want the freedom for your damn-self. You were gonna have to show up, and show out. Be willing to wade through the water, shimmy past the tree’s, duck dodge, shut the fuck up, listen, and all of that… and if you could not show up for yourself, guess what? You’re ass was getting shot, and left behind. You will be paralyzed and left behind if you don’t change your mindset and show up for yourself. Period.
We have a right to Liberty or death, and some of yall are choosing death because you want to remain idle.
Showing up for yourself is not just about self-care. I know that in this day and age we love to glamorize things, and make it pretty in order for people to jump on the bandwagon. I’m going to give the shit to you straight because showing up for yourself does not always mean you’re booking a spa day. Sometimes it means you are getting down and dirty to make sure that your goals, and dreams are fulfilled. It means late nights, early mornings. It means wearing different figurative hats and not wanting to even wear them, but you have to anyways.
Show up for your damn-self by being honest with yourself about it so that you may be fulfilled internally. Stop lying to yourself. If you need a break, take it. If you know that you don’t have the information you need to get to where you are trying to go. That means you need to invest in your knowledge. Be honest about where you are in your journey so that you can get to where you need to be. Perfect analogy. You’re driving, and you don’t know where you are going. So instead you drive around aimlessly. You refuse to pull over and ask for direction. You refuse to put the address into google maps, or buy a hand held map. Who the hell should you blame for the fact that you never made it to your destination? You. Now the person who did use their resources, and who was honest with themselves about the fact that they were lost is feeling great. They are at their destination and fulfilled, they feel whole, and most importantly they are enjoying themselves. Don’t you want that for yourself?
I will leave you with this quote.
SHOW UP FOR YOUR DAMN-SELF, BOO BOO!
