2020 Covid-19 Quarantine Thoughts

Usually, I use this space to write a short story, or to share my poetry. However, today I was compelled to write about my quarantine experience.

I have been in quarantine since the middle of March, and it is now the middle of April. Such a long time to be away from family, friends, and loved ones. It’s only been a month, but I feel like I have a glimpse of what homebound patients must feel like. Waiting, sitting, and trying to figure out how to occupy their time. No one is coming to see you, and you’re not allowed to see anyone. We are realizing how our grandparents must feel when they beg their kids, and grandchildren to come over and spend some time. They’re the only ones not complaining about going through this confinement. I guess, by now, its a walk in the park for them. After this quarantine is over... I will be doing much better.

I am such a worker, but I’ve realized during this time that it’s okay to rest. On social media there are so many post saying that, “ millionaires are made during the recession” or “ by the time this is over you should have done x, y, and z.” This put so much pressure on me, and was building up my anxiety. My goal is to be wealthy, and seeing as I am no where near that, well I can’t afford to rest, right? Wrong. This is actually the perfect time to rest. It’s the time to regroup, brainstorm, and figure out your passion if you don’t have one. Or, to simply get back to what you love doing. I used to write a book within a few days, and right poems every time my heart was happy or broken. In this time of required solitude, it made me realize that writing is my gift, and I need to continue to exercise it, practice, and build on it!

Lastly, I am taking this time to think about my finances, and how I plan to do better. You will be never be a millionaire if you don’t have financial literacy. Let that sink in. This means, its time to get to reading, and understanding your money, and its worth. They are throwing money at us left and right, I mean, I’m not complaining, lol. However, what do you plan to do with that money, how will you spend it, and use it wisely?Probably, most importantly how will you flip that money, and watch it grow?

So, while you’re taking this break to stay safe, practice self care, and regroup also, remember to think towards the future. Don’t let the government make all your decisions for you, because that is what they are doing. What decisions are you making for the betterment of your family, and for yourself?
